About Us We are just citizens, volunteers not professional lobbyists, that call up our members of Congress and have meetings with them. We inform them of a specific action they could take that would make a tangible step towards ending hunger and poverty. We can do this because we hold monthly "Education & Action" meetings, where concerned people in the Seattle area spend two hours to come to write letters to their member of Congress (or perhaps a newspaper editor) and also train to become a powerful and informed speaker on hunger and poverty issues. We can also do this because of the wide base of donor financial support we have in the Pacific Northwest. Once a month, we gather at someone's house for a national conference call, where we hear a speaker working on hunger and poverty issues, and get briefed from the RESULTS staff in Washington on what coordinated national action we could take that would be the most powerful in ending hunger and poverty. The call also reminds us that we are not alone - there are hundreds of people in scores of cities working in partnership with us. The National Conference Call is held at 11:00am on the second Saturday of the month. The location of the National Conference Call changes as different folks host the call. In Seattle, the Education & Action meeting is always held at 7:00pm on the Wednesday following the conference call (the Wednesday falling between the 12th and 18th of the month). Meetings are held at Wallingford United Methodist Church (2115 N. 42nd Seattle, at 42nd and Bagley) because they generously make the space available to a secular (non-religious) organization like us. In March and October, there is an optional potluck which begins at 6:15pm. For more information: Call Bob Dickerson at 206-285-0375. |
